Themba Lewis Consulting

Themba Lewis Consulting is an independent advisory practice supporting organisations working in refugee protection, migration, and human rights. It draws on more than 20 years of senior experience across the humanitarian and human rights sector in Asia, Africa, and Europe.

The practice provides strategy and programme advice, consortium coordination, capacity strengthening, applied research and evaluation, and donor compliance support (including USG, UN, ECHO, OSF, and others) to NGOs, UN agencies, civil society organisations, and academic institutions. Engagements range from strategy, research, and drafting to in-country consultations, workshops, and operational support.

Prior roles include Head of the Danish Refugee Council's Mixed Migration Centre (Asia and the Pacific), Secretary General of the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network, and Co-Director of Rights in Exile, an international refugee rights and legal-aid programme. This is combined with a sustained record in research, training, and editorial and strategic communications for rights-based outcomes.

Authored and edited work includes a co-edited Routledge volume, Forced Displacement and NGOs in Asia and the Pacific (2023), peer-reviewed articles, and commissioned policy reports and baseline assessments for organisations including the Mixed Migration Centre and the International Refugee Assistance Project. Invited speaking includes the International Migration Review Forum at UN Headquarters and the UNHCR Annual Consultation in Geneva.
